+ What is Physical Therapy?

+ What is Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy is a holistic system of diagnosis and treatment for musculoskeletal disturbances. It is drug-free and collaborative, and encourages the client to take an active role in their own treatment and recovery programme. Physical Therapy programmes are evidence-based. Each Programme is tailored for the individual, and as such, there is no set programme.
By using appropriate mobilisation techniques combined with work on the soft tissue (muscles) and the connective tissues (tendons and ligaments), Physical Therapy can reduce symptoms and effectively return the body to it’s healthy normality, thus reducing pain and physical impairment.
There are a number of conditions that will normally lead people to seek out Physical Therapy, eg sprains and strains. While these are clear cases for immediate therapy, the dull nagging pains in the neck and shoulders that can seem to come out of nowhere and lead people to get bad advice online, can also be treated by Physical Therapy. These aches and pains are often caused by posture issues and  incorrect training techniques. Physical Therapy can help with posture and advise on techniques to make sure you get the most out of exercise, to help prevent future re-injury and maximise the gains from your physical activity.
Physical Therapy can also benefit sufferers of chronic pain syndromes by providing structured rehabilitation programmes that get the body working within the tolerances of the individual. If you think Physical Therapy, could be helpful to you, get in touch today.

Some of the assessments and treatments can be uncomfortable, however discomfort does not last long and treatment when combined with diligent home exercise programmes are highly effective.

Due to the nature and the manner of the assessment and treatment we recommend that shorts and tee shirt are brought to the appointment.

+ How long do appointments last?

+ How long do appointments last?

Typically you should allow 60 minutes for your appointment. The initial appointment involves a detailed consultation about your medical and physical health history, followed by assessment and treatment. All during the consultation, you will be asked for continued consent, and if at any stage you have any questions they will be answered. Follow up appointments generally take less time (about 45 minutes).

+ How many treatments will I need?

+ How many treatments will I need?

It's not always possible to state how long a treatment programme will last. People respond to treatments differently and a big variable is how compliant they are to the home exercise programme prescribed. At all stages in the programme there is an ongoing process of discussing the treatment with the patient.
