Shoulder Stuff

Your shoulder is the most mobile joint in your body. A ball and socket joint like no other, one where the socket is a lot smaller then the ball, it has to work with (think of a golf ball sitting on a tee). This arrangement provides us with a hugely flexible joint, but this flexibility comes with a price, stability. Other joints get their stability from the the shape and arrangement of their parts, there are restrictions to their movements caused by their architecture, not so the shoulder; instead the shoulder uses a complex arrangement of muscles tendons and ligaments to provide stability while also allowing a huge range of movement.

It’s probably not surprising that people get shoulder pain given how well everything has to work for anything to work. Shoulder pains are usually caused by an imbalance in muscle activation in the complex group called the Rotator Cuff. Rehabilitation involves a process of re-training the group while strengthening the shoulder complex. Usually if there are no underlying conditions full recovery happens fairly quickly.
